Supporting regenerative barley farming across the UK

Cefetra Ecosystem Services Partners with Asahi UK and Boortmalt to Drive Regenerative British Barley Farming

From Fuller’s London Pride to Meantime Prime Pale and Dark Star Hophead, great beer starts long before it reaches your glass.

While the final product is easy to enjoy, the real impact happens further upstream. Behind every pint lies the opportunity to reduce emissions, improve soil health, and support farmers – all rooted in one essential ingredient: barley.

Cefetra Ecosystem Services is proud to support the advancement of regenerative agriculture in British barley, alongside industry partners Asahi UK and Boortmalt. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to building more sustainable and resilient supply chains, starting at farm level.

As highlighted in the recent announcement by Boortmalt, the partnership aims to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable barley production in the UK, supporting farmers in adopting regenerative practices while delivering measurable environmental outcomes.

At Cefetra Ecosystem Services, we work closely with farmers and supply chain partners to turn ambition into real action on the ground. Through our programme, farmers are supported in implementing regenerative practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve soil health and enhance biodiversity – with outcomes that are measured, verified and linked directly to the supply chain.

By connecting farmers, maltsters, brewers and food producers, we enable a system where sustainability is not an abstract goal, but a practical and scalable solution.

This collaboration demonstrates how aligned partnerships across the value chain can drive meaningful change – ensuring that the future of British barley farming is both productive and sustainable.
